Journalist and content creator Jennifer Neyt spent twelve years at Vogue as digital editor-in-chief before going freelance. Today, she divides her time between her creative projects and her family life, which are central to her daily routine.
Recently settled in Saint-Cloud, in a 1970s apartment overlooking a lush park and offering breathtaking views of Paris, she has created an interior that reflects her personality: colourful, eclectic, and steeped in history. Handcrafted objects, vintage finds, treasures, and travel souvenirs coexist in joyful harmony. For Jennifer, a home is first and foremost a living, warm, and personal space, where each object tells a story and where, over time, the world of its inhabitants takes shape.
I think that above all it tells a story: the know-how required for its design, the era in which it was created, but also the symbolism it can carry, reflecting the culture and spirit of an era.
My experience at Vogue certainly contributed greatly to honing my eye for design, fashion, and decoration. But I would also say that the hours spent hunting for vintage finds during the weekends and my travels have greatly enriched my sensibility and my perspective.
Absolutely: the 70s! I'm passionate about that era, both for fashion and interior design. In fact, my home has a lot of orange items, an iconic colour of that decade!
In terms of decoration, I would gladly cite artists such as François Lembo and Mithé Espelt, the work of Audoux-Minet, as well as the ceramics of Vallauris. I am also very drawn to the organic architecture of John Lautner, particularly his wooden houses nestled in the heart of the vegetation.
Aesthetics are undoubtedly paramount for me. I love everyday objects to be beautiful, and I manage to find vintage pieces for almost every purpose. I even recently unearthed a brand-new orange plastic salad spinner from the 70s!
I've noticed that the vintage items I buy are often not only more beautiful to me, but also of higher quality than many contemporary products. Today, too few objects are designed to last: they are sometimes of mediocre quality and practically disposable. That's why I place great importance on companies with a history and genuine expertise, who perpetuate a tradition of quality by creating objects made to stand the test of time.
I prefer to let my home take shape gradually. I believe you need to give yourself time and live in a space so it can evolve naturally. At my place, nothing is ever truly finished: I like the idea that the house remains a work in progress, a place that transforms according to desires, discoveries, and encounters. There's always something to imagine or develop!
I particularly like rattan and oak, two natural materials that bring a lot of warmth and character to an interior.
A beautiful piece by Pierre Paulin, without a doubt!
