Come with us behind the scenes at la Manufacture de Brun de Vian-Tiran and see how our throws are produced. Founded at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in 1808 and the bearer of the Entreprise du patrimoine vivant (EPV) label since 2009, this 200-year-old family business has been processing wool for eight generations.
« We go looking for the very best wools in the world, explains Jean-Louis Brun, current director of the family business along with his father Pierre. As a wool processor, our job is then to express, to reveal the particular qualities of the raw material as best as we possibly can. Certain wools have a lot of curl, that is, they are very wavy and voluminous. This gives them very good insulation properties. They will therefore be very warm thanks to the air they trap. Others, such as cashmere, are less so, but they have an incomparable softness. Essentially, each wool inspires a product, which is designed to reproduce all of its qualities. »
These incredible materials arrive at the factory in the form of balls (from 70 to 600 kg, depending on local collection and storage methods and are then processed, step by step. There are fi fteen steps in total, each equating to one day’s work : From the wool to the thread (spinning), from the thread to the fabric falling from the loom (weaving), from the fabric to the coloured material of incomparable softness (ennoblement), and fi nally to the fi nished product (confection).
« I belong to the eighth generation, he continues. The collaboration with Ligne Roset dates from before my time. We produce exclusive pieces from the designers’ drawings, with exclusive colours and motifs, he explains. But certain of our house models, carefully selected
by the Ligne Roset team, are also distributed through their stores. »

At the beginning of the 1990s, Pierre Brun began searching farms in the region for fl ocks of Mérinos d’Arles, which still retained their fi nesse and incomparable quality of wool from the 19th Century. La Manufacture then contributed towards the renewal by crossbreeding of the fl ocks of around fi fteen farms, resulting in the fi nest wool in the Northern Hemisphere: the Mérinos d’Arles Antique®. This was then used, for example, to make the Senoufo throw.
218 years in existence, 8 generations, 70 tonnes of wool processed each year, by 35 manufacturing workers, exercising 15 different specialities, from thread production to the production of finished products.
