Laura Väre

Born in 1989. Laura Väre is a Helsinki based designer. She has a background as a metal artisan and a degree in furniture design from Lahti Institute of Design, along with a Master´s degree in design from the faculty of Applied Arts of Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture. In the autumn of 2019 Laura was named Young Designer of the Year by Design Forum Finland. Laura’s work ranges from furniture and lamps to various product design projects. She finds inspiration in daily things around us. A light, form or a color, an interesting material or a view, something that awakens feelings in her. Occasionally, Laura can start to design a product completely for its own intended purpose, at which point she might find that something necessary is missing. Creating often feeds creativity and inspiration can occur during the project. As a designer Laura aspires to create beautiful, practical and functional as well as timeless products, answering present day challenges in her own unique style. In her work, finishing details are always combined with a strong and minimalist style. Her work has been presented at international design exhibitions in Europe and Japan. Laura is a part of Luomo collective, which was awarded a Promise award for a good design at the Muoto Gala 2016. In the spring of 2017, her work was selected to be a part of the Young Creatives collection at the Grafia Awards. She has exhibited her work at both design and furniture fairs such as Habitare, Stockholm Furniture Fair and Salone Satellite in Milan. Her work has been featured in several major publications, including AD-magazine, Dezeen, Domus, Sight Unseen, Wallpaper and many more.
