A Debut Collaboration: Pukka by Yabu Pushelberg

“Pukka” is a word used to describe something genuine, and that’s what this first collaboration between Ligne Roset and North American design duo Yabu Pushelberg was from the start. The new collection has already been named the winner of the NYCxDesign Awards in the Residential Seating category and lauded by Architectural Digest, AZURE, Dezeen, SightUnseen, Departures, and Canadian Interiors, to name a few. When designing Pukka, Yabu Pushelberg was inspired by Ligne Roset's vast knowledge of materials, specifically all-foam seating. It was a collaboration centered around family and creativity. 

We sat down with George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg to ask them about the collaboration:

Ligne Roset: What was the collaboration process like, working with Ligne Roset in this way for the first time?

George & Glenn: The Ligne Roset family has passion, courage, and an openness to challenge. Their depth of knowledge and willingness to push the barrier of how upholstery can be defined and executed shaped our collection. When we began working together, they told us we can do whatever we pleased. It is a true privilege to receive this kind of trust; to create without constraint. We believe this trust stemmed from a shared set of values and confidence that we would create a collection that communicates our shared vision.

Ligne Roset: As multi-disciplinary designers (for buildings, interiors, landscapes, graphics, etc.), what are some of the most important considerations to you when designing a product?

George & Glenn: We always start with a story, whether for interiors, landscaping, branding, or product design. Our first step in designing Pukka was thinking about the story we wished to tell with the collection. We observed our studio’s surroundings and our team's outlook on life and created a collection that would adapt not only to trends in design but also to the evolution of how people want to build and shape their lives with the passing of time. Our aim was to deliver something that actually becomes more thoughtful with age, and with Pukka serving as a response to the world’s craving for constant newness, we believe the collection will have a long life that remains relevant and adaptable to changing environments and needs.

About Pukka: The seating is created in an organic and tactile form, with soft lines, impeccable stitching details, and a touch of feminine design. It is made up of various densities of high-resilience, ultra-flexible foam to ensure a long life-span of seating support. The result is a product of high quality, comfort, and creative design carried throughout the sofa, armchair, and footstools. Soon, an occasional table and rug will be added to the collection. In addition to residential applications, Pukka offers an innovative seating solution for high-end hospitality and commercial projects. 

About the designers: George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, both Canadian born, met at Ryerson University in Toronto, where they attended design school. After school, they together founded Yabu Pushelberg in 1980 with an emphasis on interior design and have since expanded their firm into a multidisciplinary practice that addresses multiple layers of the human experience. With offices in New York City and Toronto (where George and Glenn split their time) and a team of more than a hundred creatives and professionals, they design buildings, interiors, landscapes, furniture, objects and graphics with a focus that goes well beyond what things look like, to how they make people feel.

Quick Ship Products
A non-refundable fee of 15% applies to returns, cancellations or changes on Quick Ship products. Full refunds are only given if the order is canceled within 48 hours of the order being placed.
White Glove Delivery service charges are not refundable. Returns must be received in original condition within 30 days. Credit card orders will receive refunds in the form of a credit back to the original account.

Returns are accepted only in the warehouse of your local retailer. No returns will be accepted at the store location itself. To make a return, please fill out a Return form and email to return@rosetusa.com. You will then be contacted by the store in charge of your order(s) with further details.

Made to Order Products
We do not accept any returns or exchanges on made to order furniture, this includes products not included in quick ship and/or custom (your choice of finish and fabric) products.

Ligne Roset collects the entire amount due at the time of the order. All prices on our website are listed in U.S. dollars and do not include tax and transportation costs. Sales tax is charged based on the State where the customer resides. For items offered as a set, the price listed refers to the entire set.

At Ligne Roset we believe in providing you with as much choice as possible for each model so that you can make each purchase a completely personal and individual one. For example, with the Feng range there are 18 different options for the sofa itself (including choice of feet) 38 fabric choices which range in price from grade E to grade X and on average forty different colour options. It is unlikely there will ever be two people with exactly the same sofa!
