Designed by André Kikoski for the new restaurant at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Guggen chair is now being produced by Ligne Roset. Cross-shaped base in flat steel, surmounted by a steel cylinder which supports a pleasingly thick one-piece seat/back which rotates 360°. This central cylinder-stem brings great visual lightness, along with a strong personality not shared by all of its four-legged counterparts. The upholstered seat is lightly curved so that the occupant will feel completely supported. The three bands of quilting on the back suggest a soft welcome. Its truncated shape which points to the sky confers on it an élan which only adds to its visual lightness. A second version is also available, this time with a fixed cross-shaped wire base.
CONSTRUCTION Seat/back assembly in mechanically-welded steel. Rotating cross-shaped base in flat laser-cut steel, with stem in brilliant-chromed tubular steel. Protective felt pads. Alternative version of cross-shaped base in brilliant-chromed steel wire (diameter 12 mm). COMFORT Suspension of back via elastic webbing. Seat and back in preassembled polyurethane foam 50 kg/m³ - 6.3 kPa clad in 100 g/m2 polyester quilting. In the case of the base with stem, the seat/back assembly rotates 360° (ball bearing-guided). MAKING-UP Simple stitching. Three band mattressed effect on back achieved by two rows of stitching. Covers may be removed by an upholsterer.
